In 2012, two newly qualified doctors—Dr Arsalan Mahmud and Dr Sana Mahmud—arrived in Tasmania for hospital training. Tasmania embraced them: senior mentors guided their growth, neighbours became friends, and their first child was born at Mersey Community Hospital.
As the years passed, they saw a gap in Launceston’s healthcare: long waits, fragmented services, and patients travelling far for routine care. Instead of moving on, they decided to stay and build something better.
Health Nexus Launceston is that promise fulfilled—a purpose‑built, GP‑led medical home where compassionate care meets modern facilities. Here, patients see familiar faces, urgent appointments are genuinely urgent, and complex needs are managed under one roof.
Dr Sana, named Most Outstanding GP at the Australian Patients Association’s 2022 awards, leads our women’s and children’s health programs. Dr Arsalan focuses on integrated, after‑hours and complex care. Together with an exceptional team, they have welcomed more than 6,000 patients in less than 9 months of its first patient being seen.
