IUDs: how the appointment works
An IUD is fitted in two visits rather than one. The first is an ordinary consultation to talk through whether it suits you, answer your questions, examine you if needed and complete the consent. The insertion is then booked as a separate appointment, and a follow-up visit is arranged afterwards to check everything is settling. Removals are usually a single appointment.
What to expect
Book a long appointment for contraception decisions, menopause, or anything that needs a proper conversation – reception will do this if you say what the visit is about. Bring the dates of your last period and a list of any medicines you take. If you would prefer to see a female doctor, ask when you book and reception will match you.

Fees and Medicare
Health Nexus Launceston is a mixed-billing practice. Children aged 12 and under are bulk billed whenever the practice is open, including evenings and weekends. Pension card holders over 65 and DVA Gold Card holders are bulk billed on weekdays between 8am and 5pm. Everyone else pays the consultation fee with the Medicare rebate claimed on the spot. The practice is open 8am–8pm Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm Saturday and 9am–5pm Sunday, every day of the year, and on every public holiday at the standard hours for that day.
Common questions
Can I see a female doctor?
Yes. Several female doctors work from Health Nexus. Tell reception when you book and they will put you with one.
Do you insert IUDs?
Yes. We prefer to see you first for a consultation to check that it suits you and to complete the consent, then book the insertion as a separate appointment, with a follow-up visit afterwards.
What does a cervical screening test cost?
The consultation is billed as usual (see the fees page), and the laboratory test itself is covered under the National Cervical Screening Program for eligible people.
Can a GP help with menopause?
Yes. A GP can assess your symptoms, arrange any tests that are needed, discuss the options with you and refer you on if specialist input would help. Book a long appointment so there is time.
