If you have been hurt at work, the medical side of a Tasmanian workers compensation claim starts with a doctor's certificate. Health Nexus manages workplace injuries from the first appointment through to return to work, seven days a week.
What we do
- Assessment and treatment of the injury itself
- The Workers Compensation Certificate of Capacity – the Tasmanian medical certificate that goes with your claim
- Ongoing certificates and reviews as your capacity changes
- Referrals for X-rays, scans, physiotherapy and specialist opinions
- A return-to-work plan, including suitable duties
- Liaison with your employer, the insurer and your rehabilitation provider
- Wound care and follow-up where the injury needs it
How a Tasmanian claim works
Tell your employer about the injury as soon as you can. See a doctor and get a Workers Compensation Certificate of Capacity, which sets out your injury and what work you can and cannot do. Complete the WorkSafe Tasmania workers compensation claim form, attach the certificate, and give both to your employer, who passes them to the insurer. Your doctor then issues further certificates as your capacity changes until you are back to full duties.
Bring your employer’s details, the insurer’s details if you know them, and the incident or injury report if one was completed. If the injury happened today and needs attention now, use the walk-in clinic or send an urgent appointment request.
The doctors
Workplace injuries are managed by the doctors who work from Health Nexus. These doctors do most of the WorkCover work and know the Tasmanian scheme well:
- Dr Sai Tip – workplace injuries, chronic disease
- Dr Arsalan (Sam) Mahmud – workplace injuries, acute and emergency care
- Dr Asim Razak – occupational health, workplace injuries
Fees and Medicare
Health Nexus Launceston is a mixed-billing practice. Children aged 12 and under are bulk billed whenever the practice is open, including evenings and weekends. Pension card holders over 65 and DVA Gold Card holders are bulk billed on weekdays between 8am and 5pm. Everyone else pays the consultation fee with the Medicare rebate claimed on the spot. The current fees are on the fees and bulk billing page.
The practice is open 8am–8pm Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm Saturday and 9am–5pm Sunday, every day of the year, and on every public holiday at the standard hours for that day.
Common questions
What certificate do I need for a Tasmanian workers compensation claim?
A Workers Compensation Certificate of Capacity, completed by a doctor. It goes to your employer with the WorkSafe Tasmania claim form.
Can I change doctors on WorkCover?
Yes. You choose your treating doctor and you can change. Bring whatever paperwork you have from the previous doctor so the certificates continue without a gap.
Who pays for the appointment?
Once a claim is accepted, the insurer covers reasonable medical costs for the injury. Before the claim is accepted, or if it is disputed, you may be asked to pay and claim it back – reception will explain where your claim stands.
How soon can I be seen after an injury?
The same day. Phone (03) 6351 5610 or use the walk-in clinic, 5–7pm weekdays and 1–3pm weekends.
Do you do motor accident (MAIB) claims?
The doctors here can treat your injuries and provide the certificates your claim needs. Tell reception which scheme the claim is under when you book.
