Every service at Health Nexus Launceston, explained
Everything below is provided at 24 Wellington Street by the 13 GPs, the specialist and the dentists who work from Health Nexus, supported by our nurses and reception team. Use the list to jump to a service; each section says what is included, which doctors have a special interest in it, and how to book.
Open 8am–8pm Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm Saturday, 9am–5pm Sunday and every public holiday. Mixed billing: children aged 12 and under are bulk billed whenever the practice is open, including evenings and weekends; pension card holders over 65 and DVA Gold Card holders are bulk billed on weekdays between 8am and 5pm; everyone else is privately billed with the Medicare rebate claimed on the spot – see fees and bulk billing.
General practice
Family medicine and general practice
Health Nexus Launceston is a general practice first. Thirteen GPs work from the practice, so you can keep seeing the doctor who knows you for ongoing care, or take the first available doctor when something cannot wait. New patients are welcome.

Walk-in clinic and same-day appointments
If you need to be seen today, phone (03) 6351 5610 or send an urgent appointment request online and reception will fit you in with the first available doctor. The walk-in clinic runs 5–7pm Monday to Friday and 1–3pm on Saturdays and Sundays, with no appointment needed.

After-hours GP appointments
The practice is open until 8pm on weekdays and all weekend, and it opens on every public holiday, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, on the standard hours for that day. Evening and weekend appointments are booked the same way as daytime ones.

Antenatal shared care
Shared antenatal care with the Launceston General Hospital lets you have most of your pregnancy visits with a GP you know, with the hospital’s maternity team seeing you at the agreed points and for the birth.

Mental health care
A GP is often the first step for anxiety, low mood, stress, sleep problems and other mental health concerns. Book a longer appointment so there is time to talk things through and agree on a plan.

Procedures and treatments
Iron infusion clinic
A direct-access iron infusion clinic for adults whose low iron has been confirmed on a recent blood test. A GP reviews your results and history first; the infusion is given in the clinic with a doctor on site, and the whole appointment, including observation afterwards, takes about an hour.

Minor surgical procedures

Launceston Dentists at Health Nexus provide emergency and after-hours dental care for toothache, broken teeth, lost fillings, dental abscesses and injuries, with an on-call dentist by phone and same-day appointments. Neurology
Dr Balaji Kalband, a specialist neurologist, consults from Health Nexus for epilepsy, headache and migraine, neuropathy, movement disorders and other neurological conditions. A GP referral is required for Medicare rebates, and the GPs who work from Health Nexus can refer you.
