How same-day appointments work
Health Nexus Launceston keeps appointments free every day for problems that cannot wait: infections, injuries, chest or abdominal pain that needs a doctor today, children who are unwell, asthma flare-ups, urgent prescriptions and mental health crises. Call (03) 6351 5610 and reception will triage you to the first available GP; you can also book online through AutoMed or HotDoc, where most of the GPs who work from Health Nexus show same-day or next-day appointments. We are open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm Saturday and 9am to 5pm Sunday, with a pathology collection centre on site on weekdays.

Fees for urgent and after-hours visits
Same-day appointments are billed like any other consultation: children aged 12 and under are bulk billed whenever the practice is open, including evenings and weekends; pension card holders over 65 and DVA Gold Card holders are bulk billed on weekdays between 8am and 5pm, and everyone else pays the standard fee with the Medicare rebate claimed on the spot. After-hours loadings apply before 8am on weekdays, on Saturdays, and all day on Sundays and public holidays. The full table is on our fees page.
When to go straight to the Emergency Department
Call 000 or go to the Launceston General Hospital Emergency Department for chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, signs of stroke, a serious injury or any condition that feels life-threatening.
