Dental emergencies rarely happen at a convenient time. Launceston Dentists at Health Nexus, 24 Wellington Street, provides emergency dental care for patients who are in pain or have an urgent dental problem. Same-Day Appointments

We keep openings in the schedule for dental emergencies. If you call with a severe toothache, a broken tooth or a dental injury, our aim is to see you the same day. Appointments are made by phone on (03) 6351 5610 and we quote the fee when you book. Our central Launceston location at 24 Wellington Street is easy to reach, with free on-site parking.

After-Hours On-Call

Cracked a tooth in the evening, or woken up with a throbbing molar? Call (03) 6351 5610. Our on-call dentist will give you advice over the phone on managing pain or an injury, and we will arrange to see you as soon as possible, often the same day. Health Nexus is open seven days and until 8pm on weekdays, so urgent dental care is available outside standard dental hours.

Common Dental Emergencies We Treat

Toothache and abscess: we find the cause, relieve the pain and treat the infection, which may include a dressing, antibiotics or an extraction, and arrange any follow-up treatment you need.
Broken, chipped or cracked teeth: we smooth or repair the damaged tooth and protect it until definitive treatment can be arranged.
Knocked-out tooth: time matters. Keep the tooth moist (in milk or inside your cheek), avoid touching the root and call us straight away; the sooner you are seen, the better the chance of saving it.
Lost fillings or crowns: we can replace a lost filling or re-cement a crown so the tooth is protected and comfortable again.
Swelling and dental infection: facial swelling or a gum boil can mean an abscess that needs prompt attention. If swelling affects your breathing or swallowing, call 000 or go to the Emergency Department.
Braces and orthodontic emergencies: a poking wire or a loose bracket can be made comfortable until you can see your orthodontist.

Fees and Payment

Dental treatment is privately billed and is not covered by Medicare for most patients. We quote the fee when you book, so there are no surprises, and our priority is getting you out of pain. If you have private health insurance with dental extras, check with your fund about what you can claim.

After Your Emergency Visit

Once the immediate problem is under control, we will explain what further treatment the tooth needs and help you arrange it, whether with us or with a dentist of your choice for ongoing care. Launceston Dentists no longer provides routine check-ups, cleans, whitening or mouth guards, so we encourage you to keep up regular care with a general dentist.
