Dental problems don’t keep office hours. Launceston Dentists at Health Nexus, 24 Wellington Street, provides emergency and after-hours dental care for patients who cannot wait for a routine appointment.
Need urgent dental care outside standard dental hours? The dentists who work from Health Nexus, Dr Sharath Guntur and Dr Dawn Ng, can be reached by phone through our on-call service for advice, and we keep same-day appointment slots for urgent problems. Call (03) 6351 5610.
Health Nexus is open seven days: 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm Saturday and 9am to 5pm Sunday. Urgent dental appointments are arranged by phone with the on-call dentist, and the fee is quoted when you book.
- Emergency dental care: on-call dentist by phone, plus same-day appointment slots for urgent problems.
- Health Nexus opening hours: Monday to Friday 8am – 8pm, Saturday 8am – 5pm, Sunday 9am – 5pm.
When to Call the On-Call Dentist
Call (03) 6351 5610 and ask for the on-call dentist if you have:
- Severe toothache, facial swelling or a dental abscess.
- A broken, cracked or knocked-out tooth, or an injury to your mouth.
- A lost filling or crown, or bleeding after dental treatment that will not settle.
Our on-call dentist will talk you through managing pain or an injury, and we will arrange to see you as soon as possible, often the same day. If you have severe facial swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or bleeding that will not stop, call 000 or go to the Launceston General Hospital Emergency Department.
Evening and Weekend Dental Problems
- Evening and weekend emergencies: a sports injury on Saturday or a crown that comes out at dinner does not have to mean a painful night of waiting. Call us and we will arrange the earliest available appointment.
- Toothache relief: a severe toothache on Friday night does not have to wait until Monday. Call and we will fit you in as soon as we can.
- Lost filling or loose crown: we can protect the tooth or re-cement the crown so you are comfortable until further treatment is arranged.
- Shift workers and busy schedules: because Health Nexus is open seven days and until 8pm on weekdays, urgent dental care can usually be fitted around your work.
The Same Care, Whatever the Hour
After-hours dental care at Launceston Dentists is provided by the dentists who work from Health Nexus, Dr Sharath Guntur and Dr Dawn Ng, with the same infection control and standards as a daytime visit. We focus on relieving pain and stabilising the problem, then explain what follow-up treatment is needed and help you arrange it.
How to Reach Us After Hours
- During opening hours: call (03) 6351 5610 and ask for the on-call dentist or a same-day dental appointment. Dental appointments are made by phone, not online.
- Outside opening hours: call the same number, (03) 6351 5610, to reach the on-call dentist for advice on managing the problem and when you can be seen. In a life-threatening emergency, call 000.
- Non-urgent questions: use the contact form on our website or call during opening hours, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
What to Expect
When you come in for an urgent dental appointment:
- There is free on-site parking at 24 Wellington Street, and the clinic is open and staffed seven days.
- Bring a list of your current medications and any allergies, and your private health fund card if you have dental extras.
- The dentist will assess the problem, relieve pain and stabilise the tooth; definitive treatment may need a further visit.
- The fee is quoted when you book. Dental care is not covered by Medicare for most patients.
Launceston Dentists no longer offers routine check-ups, cleans, whitening or mouth guards. For ongoing dental care we encourage you to see a general dentist regularly; for a dental emergency, we are here to help. Call (03) 6351 5610.
