Not everyone in Tasmania has a Medicare card. You might be a visitor, an international student, or waiting for your card to arrive. So what happens if you need to see a GP in Launceston without Medicare?
No Medicare = full fee
Normally, Medicare covers part of your visit. Without it, you’ll need to pay the full clinic fee, which is usually $95–$110 for a standard consultation. For a long or complex visit, it could be $150 or more. After-hours and weekend visits may also cost extra.
Insurance and agreements
If you’re from a country that has a reciprocal health care agreement with Australia, you might get some cover. Otherwise, having travel or health insurance can help pay the bill.

How billing works at Health Nexus Launceston
Health Nexus Launceston is a mixed-billing practice. Children aged 12 and under, pension card holders over 65 and DVA Gold Card holders are bulk billed for consultations on weekdays between 8am and 5pm. Everyone else is privately billed, with the Medicare rebate claimed on the spot, and other concession card holders and students pay a discounted fee. See our current fees or book an appointment.
